The History of Oldham
History is a vital component of our work. The inspiration for The Mills at Hollinwood comes from the area’s rich history of manufacturing as a key hub during the industrial revolution, and we want to deliver the same sense of forward-thinking and innovation to drive our own business revolution.
The development of the project was inspired by Oldham’s history at the forefront of the UK textiles industry during the 1800s, which represents the values of hard work and innovation that power The Mills.
We were also driven by the opportunity to regenerate a former industrial site, and to create a state-of-the-art office space development through multiple phases over the next few years that will serve the local community as a vital business hub.

Our inspiration
In the mid-19th century, Oldham was at the heart of the industrial revolution thanks to its strong connection to the textile industry and valuable reserves of coal. The growth and transformation of cotton mills was powered by the work ethic and determination of the local people, qualities that have never subsided.
That spirit of transformation and revolution is fundamental to the design philosophy of The Mills and we’ve worked to create an office space with the flexibility to suit a wide variety of needs and a range of future-proof features to deliver everything that the modern business needs.
Annie Kenney Mill, the first phase of the development, is named after a revolutionary suffragette who grew up in Greater Manchester and became one of the region’s proudest heroes. Annie Kenney worked in Oldham’s cotton mills for 15 years before she went on to become a notable activist fighting for women’s suffrage through a leadership role in the Women's Social and Political Union.
That determination for change and belief in a better future was a lodestar for our own technological revolution in developing The Mills at Hollinwood
